Possible Cause-Effect Relationships Between Vrancea (Romania) Earthquakes and Some Global Geophysical Phenomena

چکیده
The possibility that the Earth’s tides are a triggering factor of Vrancea subcrustal earthquakes is investigated in the first part of this paper. A possible correlation between Vrancea subcrustal earthquakes and geomagnetic jerks is demonstrated in the second part. The last part of the paper presents a number of results concerning a possible relationship between the regularities of strong Vrancea subcrustal seismicity and the Chandler nutation parameters. An attempt is made to integrate all of these phenomena in a more general framework that takes into account physical processes in the Earth mantle and core. A long-term prediction of the next strong Vrancea earthquake is finally

Earthquake Precursors Assessment in Vrancea Area, Romania by Satellite and Geophysical In-situ Data
Earthquake prediction has two potentially compatible but distinctly different objectives: (a) phenomena that provide information about the future earthquake hazard useful to those who live in earthquake-prone regions and (b) phenomena causally related to the physical processes governing failure on a fault that will improve our understanding of those processes. For seismic hazard analysis in Vra...
متن کاملEarthquake early warning for Bucharest, Romania: Novel and revised scaling relations
[1] The accumulation of strong earthquakes with resembling source mechanisms in the Romanian Vrancea zone, SE Carpathians, allows for designing a simple, cheep and robust earthquake early warning (EEW) system for Bucharest with leading times of about 25 s. A previously established scaling relation for EEW predicts in the range from 1–2 s a ten times higher ground motion amplitude in Bucharest t...
متن کاملCombining Radar , Optical and GPS data for Vrancea seismic area analysis
This paper addresses some key aspects regarding integrated use of radar, optical and GPS data over Vrancea seismic area in Romania in order to assess active tectonic of this region, since it has allowed the detection of active movements mainly coincident with active faults and/or with areas of seimicity concentration. Field studies should be oriented to the locations where seismic anomalies hav...
متن کاملRadon as an Earthquake Precursor – Methods for Detecting Anomalies
Radon is one of many geophysical and geochemical phenomena that can be considered to be an earthquake precursor. Due to the non-linear dependence of earthquakes’ initial conditions, the question about the predictability of earthquakes often arises (Geller, 1997). The successful prediction of earthquakes is yet to be accomplished, in terms of their magnitude, location and time, and much effort h...
متن کاملUpper mantle structures beneath the Carpathian–Pannonian region: Implications for the geodynamics of continental collision
The Carpathian–Pannonian system of Eastern and Central Europe represents a unique opportunity to study the interaction between surface tectonic processes involving convergence, extension and convective overturn in the upper mantle. Here, we present high-resolution images of upper mantle structure beneath the region from P-wave finite-frequency teleseismic tomography to help constrain such geody...
